This 15pt paper provides students with an introduction to digital electronics and microprocessors. It covers combinatorial and sequential logic, hardware description languages, and processor architecture and construction.

The paper consists of lectures and laboratories. All lectures are taught by Dr Nelson (Computer Science). Six laboratories are to be completed, three in the Electronics Laboratory C1.04 and three as online coding exercises.

Important Note for International Students: For international students in New Zealand under student visas, regular attendance is part of their visa obligation and is checked as a requirement on the University under the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students, to which the University is a signatory. Staff are formally required to monitor attendance at / submission of compulsory assessment events/items and to report to the International Centre in the event that any problem with irregular attendance or non-submission is not resolved.

3h lectures per week, six 3h laboratories for a total of 54 contact hours. A further 6h per week are allowed for personal study, assignments and quizzes and 3 days of study for the exam. With the exam that totals 153h.
